Maui Trip Report (Part 3 of 5) – Andaz Maui

Andaz Maui at Wailea

To start the trip we stayed at the gorgeous Andaz Maui in Wailea for 3 nights @ 30k Hyatt points/night. It was a beautiful resort with fabulous tiered infinity pools and a fantastic beach.

Most of the time we weren’t at the pool we enjoyed the great beach directly in front of the resort.

As for food and beverages, the poolside drink service was prompt and plentiful. Breakfast at the Ka’ana Kitchen was top notch and included for free as part of Globalist benefits.

Our modest “partial ocean view room” with the largest/most provocative full length shower I have ever seen. It had panels that slid open to offer full views from anywhere in the room.

“Partial Ocean View” from our balcony

It was the most adult oriented resort of the three we stayed at. For a couple traveling sans children this was fantastic. It was our favorite of the trip.

Unlike many properties which charge a resort fee that covers local faxes or other useless amenities, the resort fee at the Andaz actually covered a host of activities. It was waived on our award stay but we were still able to take advantage of some offerings such as two stand up paddleboard lessons . We learned that P2 was a lot more successful at remaining in a standing position than I.

The Andaz located in upscale Wailea was a great central location to partake in many activities and delicious dinners undertaken while staying at this site:

Gannon’s – (Reserved via Opentable) Modest restaurant at the Wailea golf course with gorgeous views.

West Maui & Molokai Helicopter Tour with Oceanfront Landing (75 minutes) – Booked with CSR through the Chase portal for 44.5k UR. Incredible views of the shoreline, valleys, waterfalls and coastline of Maui and Molokai. It included an oceanfront landing with a 15 minute stop at a picturesque location. Was worth the investment in points and helped to conserve some cash.

Ocean Organic Vodka– Brief tasting tour and cocktails purchased and sipped in the yard with great views of West Maui. P2 was in her glory and also purchased several bottles to bring home.

Duo Steak & Seafood at the Four Seasons. (Reserved via Amex Concierge. Anniversary Dinner. Absolutely excellent. We walked here and afterwards took a nice sunset stroll along the beach path to get back to the Andaz.

Haleakala Summit- We missed out on getting sunrise tickets so we drove up mid morning in clear weather and low crowds. I actually preferred this timing since it was more relaxed and we still got the opportunity to see a sunrise later in Hana. I was here 20 years ago and my memories are of a surreal martian landscape. Things have not changed. Afterwards we headed out on the Piilani Highway for the “back road” to Hana.

Maui Wine– Located at the beginning of the Piilani Highway. Bought a few bottles to take home/drink in Hana.

Next Report: Hana
